Manchester Wins Super-Casino Licence Bid

Manchester has been unveiled as the new location for the UK’s first "super casino", beating Greenwich and Blackpool, which had been the frontrunners to win the Government licence. The northern city fought off competition from six other areas, including Cardiff, Glasgow, Newcastle and Sheffield.

Reports suggest that the investors behind the Blackpool bid are now consulting lawyers over appealing against the Casino Advisory Panel’s surprise announcement this morning.

The Government is also awarding 16 licences for eight large casinos, which can operate 150 slot machines, and eight smaller operations, which will run up to 50 slot machines.

A super-casino has the capacity to run 1,350 machines that can pay a £1 million jackpot.
