Blotter: Three men banned from Pennsylvania casinos
Rss-
Three men were recently placed on the "involuntary casino exclusion list" by the Pennsylvania state gaming commission for their efforts in attempting to tamper with slot machines to give false jackpots. Kerry Laverde, Patrick Loushil and Andre Nestor were charged with theft in October when authorities discovered their scheme to defraud the Meadows Racetrack and Casino in rural Washington County.
The Gaming Control Board released a statement on the incidents saying that the men were "accused of compromising a slot machine" at the facility. Although the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has not announced any state-level criminal charges against the gang, they may still pursue prosecution for the theft of more than US$400,000 in unearned winnings that the trio took home over two months last summer. The men are already facing charges in Washington County for the cheating and theft.
The "exclusion list" functions in Pennsylvania in much the same way that the "black book" listing casino undesirables does in Nevada. Only the most serious cheaters and criminals are added to the list for reasons ranging from manipulating slot machines to marking cards to tampering with game software and hardware. As the number of states with legalized gambling increase, many states are making efforts to share information to prohibit cheaters banned from casinos in one state to move to another and continue their criminal enterprises.
In a related story, the Gaming Control Board also issued fines to The Rivers Casino, a new gaming facility near Pittsburgh, for allowing underage players on the casino floor. The casino received fines totaling US$16,000 for allowing two teenagers in two separate incidents to play slot machines. In October, a fifteen-year-old girl was on the gaming floor for several minutes before being escorted out of the building by casino security. Last December, a fourteen-year-old boy was also playing the slots before security staff ejected him from the premises.
