Blotter: Robin Hood returns to Vegas blackjack tables

When we talk about notable characters in the gambling industry, inevitably much of the focus is on poker pros. Since few casinos look kindly on the blackjack pros whose earnings cut directly into their own profits, it's easy to understand why these players want to keep a low profile. That said, one mysterious blackjack pro is becoming quite notorious. They call him "Robin Hood" because-like the literary character of the same name-he steals from the "rich" (aka the casinos) and gives to the poor (aka victims of the recession).

Robin Hood made his first blip on the gambling industry radar back in 2008 when he gave a struggling family whose daughter had been diagnosed with brain cancer $35,000 of his blackjack winnings to pay off their medical bills and, in his own words, "win back the American dream."

Now, Robin Hood is ready to do blackjack battle again. Soon he will choose another deserving family from the hundreds that have submitted stories to his site. If he hits the raw end of the odds and loses, the selected family will still get half of their debts paid off. If he wins, they'll get the $25,000 to $50,000 they need to save their home and/or get their lives back on track.

While the pro in question prefers to remain anonymous, his deeds have inspired other big names to step forward. Renowned vitamin designer Dr. Schulze will select a second family from the eligible applicants and pay their debts outright, and the Palazzo casino in Las Vegas-perhaps the least likely supporter as a member of the dubious "rich" that Robin Hood is stealing from-will fly the first family out to Vegas, so they can watch their hero "steal" the promised funds directly from a casino blackjack table.
