Tournament: Kaseem Deeb leads Bellagio WPT Final Table
Rss-
Veteran poker pro Kaseem “Freddy” Deeb leads all contenders at the Main Event of the Festa Al Lago poker tournament. Deeb will be on the final TV table with 3.84 million chips. The fiery competitor is seeking his third career World Poker Tour title, which would tie him with Gus “The Great Dane” Hansen for the most wins in the Tour’s eight-year history, as well as the US$1.2 million first prize.
However, Deeb’s chip lead is a very narrow one. Shawn Cunix, an accomplished player from Ohio, is sitting at his first TV table with 3.67 million chips. With the blinds at 40,000/80,000 and a 5,000 ante, Cunix is only two big blinds and two antes behind Deeb. Cunix won his way into the tournament through a US$1,500 super-satellite to earn his US$15,000 buy-in seat at this prestigious event.
New York poker pro Tommy Vedes is also in contention for the title; his stack totals just shy of three million chips. This is also Vedes’ first WPT TV table, as he just missed the final six when he finished seventh at the US$5,000 buy-in event at the World Poker Open in Tunica, Mississippi. Vedes did receive some TV exposure during his run at the 2009 WSOP Main Event when he finished nineteenth.
Another player who earned his seat through a satellite, Craig Crivello, is in fourth chip position with just over 2.5 million. Canadian player Jason Lavallee sits in fifth place with just over two million. The short stack belongs to newcomer Jason Burt with 1.375 million. With less than sixty hands to go before the blinds and antes eat his stack, Burt must make a move to take down the prize.
With two hundred and seventy-five entrants each paying US$15,000 to play, the prize pool sits at just over US$4 million, one of the biggest prize pools this year on the World Poker Tour. The final table action starts at the luxurious Bellagio Hotel and Casino on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip at 4pm PDT.
