Blotter: Bwin bets on Shoutbox

Rss

In an industry where customers can switch their allegiances with a simple click of the mouse, competition between online casinos has gotten cutthroat. Novelty wears off fast in the world of online gambling, so the search for advancements that will bring in (and keep) new players is constant. Right now, the trend is toward a more interactive online gambling experience, and the popular UK operator bwin is taking a social slant in their pursuit of a more realistic gaming platform.

If you've ever had a Facebook, MySpace or Twitter account then you know how addictive social networking can be. Bwin is betting on this phenomenon to bring in a younger, more active demographic of players. Earlier this year they launched a cleaner, faster, more graphically advanced platform, and now they're dressing it up with new features like the Shoutbox tool. The Shoutbox will allow bwin members to invite and challenge friends through popular social networks like Twitter and Facebook. The advantages for bwin are obvious: free and instant advertising on the most personal level.

The Shoutbox application is integral to bwin's new interactivity-oriented business plan. It will also feature better real-time chat features and is expected to pave the way for more user-generated content.
