The Dos and Don`ts of Casino Gambling

15-May-2006, 19:33

Sometimes even the most seasoned gambler loses sight of some of the most cardinal rules of successful betting. In this article we will lay down for you the most common mistakes and the most frequently overlooked methods of smart gambling.

Always:

Have a plan. Money management is the single most important thing to remember when gambling. If you don't determine beforehand exactly how much you are prepared to lose, over a certain amount of time in a single session, you are running the risk of getting yourself into heavy debt.

Never:

Borrow money to recover losses. Every gambler loses occasionally. If you are trying to recoup losses by playing with money that's not yours, you are asking for trouble. Typically the people who lend money to desperate people are conniving and merciless, and should be avoided at all costs.

Always:

Tip dealers when they do a good job. It doesn't have to be only when you win, and it doesn't have to be much. But by leaving a little something extra, you are not only upping your karma credit, but you are showing appreciation for what at times can be a very difficult job. We have nothing but respect for dealers who are able to consistently provide quality service in high pressure situations.

Never:

Expect special treatment from a dealer. Just because you are friendly and you tip well, it doesn't mean the dealer will do anything to improve your chances of winning. It is strictly against all casino policy, and any dealer caught doing this would be immediately fired.

Always:

Ask if you have qualified for a comp. Usually, the casino host will not seek you out to inform you that you have collected enough points for a freebie. At the end of your gambling session, go to the VIP desk or the Players Club desk to find out for yourself.

Never:

Exceed your budget in attempt to gain a comp. Comps are based on a formula that will nearly always benefit the casino. Why blow an extra $100 that you didn't intend to lose just so you can get your $50 hotel room paid for?

Always:

Gamble with your brains, not your heart. It's sometimes very easy to let your emotions get the best of you. A casino is not a good place for this to happen. Don't let previous experiences alter your habits.

Never:

Go to a casino with something to prove. If you`re trying to impress someone (that sexy blonde, your colleague, the pit boss), don't bother. You need to be focused on the task at hand. If you allow your vanity to distort your judgment, you will soon be wishing you had just stayed home.

Always:

Have as much fun as you can. Casinos are meant to be places of leisure. If you aren't enjoying yourself, then something's clearly wrong.
